28 students of Portuguese Language of Andimba Toivo ya Toivo School in the Ohangwena region (650 km north of Windhoek) visited the Embassy last Friday as part of a field trip to Windhoek which also included a visit to Diogo Cão Centre. All the students study Portuguese Language in Andimba Toivo ya Toivo School, which offers Portuguese as a foreign curricular option since 2015. The school is part of wider group of 22 Namibian schools that have joined so far the Portuguese Language project agreed in the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Governments of Portugal and Namibia in 2011.

Ambassador Isabel Brilhante Pedrosa welcomed the young students, who had the opportunity to visit the premises of the chancellery and familiarize themselves with the dynamics of a diplomatic mission. The Portuguese Ambassador highlighted the advantages of learning Portuguese, a truly global language, increasingly important in the Internet as well as in the business world. During the visit, the Portuguese Ambassador offered 15 Portuguese dictionaries to the school in order to better equip it with the necessary tools to teach Portuguese.

The young students of Andimba Toivo ya Toivo School – named after an important anti-apartheid activist and icon of Namibia’s struggle for independence – shared the joy regarding Portugal’s victory at Euro CUP 2016 and were very keen on taking pictures with the national team’s scarf!
