MINISTER OF PORTUGUESE FOREIGN AFFAIRS CONSIDERS NAMIBIA TO BE AN IMPORTANT PARTNER

January 7, 2016

In the 2016 Diplomatic Seminar, which took place on January 5 in Lisbon, Santos Silva said that the strengthening of transatlantic ties continues to be a permanent item on the agenda, particularly the use of Lajes base. The organization and definition of a new strategic vision are under way within the CPLP [Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries]. Augusto Santos Silva said that Brazil, Angola and Mozambique, as well as Africa’s Southern Cone - South Africa and Namibia -are extremely important for this new vision. He left a warning, however, assuring that Portugal will apply for Executive Secretary of CPLP against the claim of some African countries, that say that since Lisbon is already the CPLP Headquarters, it should not occupy that position.
